This past winter I started having bad foot pain. I had a shooting pain in my heel and my arch was always sore. I found out that I have plantar fasciitis, a painful inflammatory of the plantar fascia, the connective tissue on the sole of the foot. The pain would get so bad that I could barely walk. So I started to read up on what I needed to do to help relieve the pain. One thing was to wear a shoe insert with an arch support and heel pad. Which was fine in the winter when I was wearing shoes and boots. But when we had an early spring, I started wondering what I was going to wear all summer! I didn’t want to wear tennis shoes to the pool or beach. And what about what I was going to wear with a dress to my brothers wedding?
I found out about a great online store named Orthotic Shop. The Orthotic Shop carries a wide selection of Orthaheel Flip Flops, shoes & slippers. “Orthaheel sandals” for pronation & plantar fasciitis are available for men and women and come in many styles and colors.
I picked two different pair to review. The first pair are these cute Dr. Weil Hope Sandal. Dr. Weil Hope Flip Flops have an Orthaheel footbed that provides the level of support orthotics give. At first they were a little tight but I was able to quickly break them in. I wore these with my dress to my brothers wedding and my feet felt great after a long night of dancing!!
The second pair that I tried was a model from 2011, named the Lisa sandal. While I loved the sandals, there were some quality issues with them. The soles of the shoes started to peel off and parts of the straps came apart. You can see the peeling in the photo above.
If it wasn’t for those issues these would be great flip flops. They feel great on my feet. They have became my go to summer flip flops, when I need to head out the door they are the ones I slip on first!
After my issues with the Lisa Sandal, I was sent a third to review, so that I could see the quality difference between the 2011 models and the 2012 models. I was sent theOrthaheel Talia – Orthotic Flip Flops. These are so cute to wear. There is a big difference in the quality and it feels like the heel support seems higher and feels good on my feet.
Break-in note: If you have not worn arch supports before, it is important to allow yourself and your feet some time to adjust to the new support. They suggest you wear the Orthaheel orthotic footwear 2-3 hours for the first 2-3 days. After this initial break-in period, wearing the shoes all day should be comfortable and enjoyable. Some individuals take longer to adjust to the support, while others feel the benefits and comfort as soon as they start wearing them.
